In what may be the first break in the clouds Mel Gibson has seen in six weeks at least it’s being reported that Britney Spears  has come to his aid. Sources close to the 28-year old singer say Britney now wants to return the kindness Mel showed her during her traumatic breakdown in 2008;

“Mel flew Britney and her dad to his ranch in Costa Rica, and she’s never forgotten his kindness,” a source tells the Enquirer. “Every day they’d pray together, asking God to help Britney. Mel also counseled her on her career, and now she wants to extend the same kindness to him.”

So Brit now calls Mel’s various phone numbers almost daily, leaving prayers and supportive messages for the over-stressed actor. “She leaves messages reminding him how they prayed together and telling him it did her a lot of good,” the source confides. “She’s convinced that he’s listening to her prayers, and those prayers will now help him.”

The 54-year old Oscar winner is currently facing investigation over reports of alleged domestic violence against his ex-partner Oksana Grigorieva. The LA County Sheriff’s Department is also investigating whether Grigorieva tried to extort money from Gibson in return for suppressing the now infamous tapes.

“Britney feels Mel is being dragged through the mud, and she knows how that feels,” the source shares.  “She sees Oksana as a user who had a baby with Mel for money and fame and is now playing the victim, just like Kevin Federline did.” But while the two stars have not yet spoken directly, Britney plans to support Mel for as long as it takes; “Mel was a knight in shining armor for Britney, and she’ll be there for him whenever he needs her,” the insider confirms..
