Following an acclaimed sell-out run at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, ‘Tegrity: Britney Spears In Cabaret has opened at Sydney’s hottest new cabaret venue, Raval for a limited season.

Christie Whelan plays Britney, who walks you through the stories of her life using loads of tabloid tidbits you’ve heard before. Her numerous hits, re-imagined as cabaret numbers provide the soundtrack and take on new meanings as they weave the fabric of her life together.

The venue, Raval, is perfect for this show with its small stage, complete with a baby grand, amidst comfy lounges mish-mashed from different eras.

It’s beautiful, the lighting is perfect and the wine list decent. Just be sure to get there early, this place fills up fast and they have certainly squeezed as many pieces of furniture in here as possible!

The show itself is hilarious and Christie is absolutely brilliant. Playing the southern-fried Britney perfectly, she easily gains the audience’s sympathy.

As she reveals the various trainwrecks that are her relationships. And this young lady knows a thing or two about comic timing! No newcomer to performing live, Christie has been honing her talents over the last few years, playing opposite Natalie Bassingthwaighte and John Farnham in Grease:

The Arena Spectacular, winning Best Newcomer at the Sydney Theatre Awards for her role in Company, and has had loads of roles in the Melbourne theatre scene in musicals such as 42nd Street, The Boyfriend and Once We Lived Here.

‘Tegrity is both a satirical and realistic look at the perils of fame told from a perspective we don’t often see – that of the person involved. Don’t go to this show thinking it’s a tribute, it’s not. But, if you’re a Brit fan, or if you like well-written cabaret, be sure to see it before it leaves town.
