Britney Spears has stormed her way to the top of the US music chart with her raunchy new song Womanizer. Spears takes top spot on the Billboard 100 thanks to a staggering 286,000 download sales. It is her first number one since her 1999 debut Hit Me Baby One More Time.
The record-breaking chart rise – Womanizer was at just 96th place last week – marks a turn of fortune for the star who appears to have put her recent troubles behind her.
The last 18 months has seen Spears making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Her very public mental breakdown, her split with husband Kevin Federline and her unsuccessful battle for custody of her children have provided much fodder for the tabloids.
Britney has shot a risqué video to accompany the single. The slimmed-down star takes on the role of sexy secretary in a short black wig and leather-clad tattoed waitress as well as appearing naked in the bath.
The single is the first song from forthcoming album The Circus, which is due to be released on December 2 - Spears's 27th birthday. Although Womanizer is not yet available for download in the UK, the video can be viewed on her official YouTube channel.
